Bookaroo Children’s Literature Festival
La Petite Fleur Schools organized the First ever Bookaroo Children's Literature Festival in Sri Lanka, aimed at fostering a love for reading and storytelling among children. It was held from 9th to 11th May 2024, with the support of SriLankan Cares, which helped bring down authors for the event.
The festival featured engaging interactions between children and creators of literature, bringing books to life. As a part of their mission to reach diverse communities, Bookaroo extended this programme to children in Children’s Homes under the Probation and Child Care Department.
On 9th May, an outreach programme was conducted specifically for Certified Schools and Remand Homes, involving children from Makola Certified School, Ranmuthugala Certified School, Makola Remand Home, Ranmuthugala Remand Home, and Vihara Maha Devi Children’s Home. On 10th May, the festival was open to schools and the public, with children from Gunasekara, Maithri, and Sri Lankadara Child Development Centres participating in the event.
Health and Wellness programme for the students of Andiambalama Maha Vidyalaya
SriLankan Cares, the community arm of SriLankan Airlines, organized a two-day health programme for students from grades 8 to 12 at Andiambalama Maha Vidyalaya. The sessions, led by a team of doctors and a psychologist, focused on both the mental and physical health of the students.
This initiative provided a valuable opportunity for students to discuss their issues and concerns directly with the healthcare professionals. The program was arranged in response to a request from the principal and the parents of Andiambalama Maha Vidyalaya, highlighting the commitment of SriLankan Cares to supporting the well-being of the community.
Field visit to Meethirigala Nissarana Forest with the members of the Green Club of Andiambalama National School
Sri Lankan Cares accommodated the students of the Green Club of Adiambalama Vidyalaya to Meethirigala Reserve Forest on their annual educational trip. Several officials of the Wildlife and Forest Conservation Department joined in this trip and provided valuable guidance and knowledge to these children. They explained the various aspects of the forest including plants, animals and their importance to the ecosystem.
At the end of the trip, the children actively participated in a clean-up programme, collecting and the garbage in the forest. This practical experience confirmed the importance of environmental conservation and instilled a sense of responsibility to protect nature.

Marking the International Women’s Day in a meaningful way, SriLankan Cares organized a special programme for the parents of Andiambalama National School, Andiambalama.
The audience were educated by the Company Medical Officer Dr Nileesha De Silva Gunasekera on the importance of leading a healthy life Thereafter Ms Shinali Tissera, Aircraft Workshop Engineer spoke about the importance of education for women to succeed in life. Finally all participants were given an opportunity for a question and answer session.
Care giving programme at Mapiya Sewana Elders Home, Ja-ela
SriLankan Cares continuously extends its guidance and assistance to facilitate Care Giving Days which are conducted as a part of the Cabin Crew training programme. The idea behind conducting such programmes is to encourage the Cabin Crew to enhance their knowledge on how to care for the elderly and the differently abled since they always encounter these segments of passengers onboard. It is of paramount importance that they demonstrate empathy and a compassionate attitude when serving such passengers. Cabin Crew members from A7-23 batch participated in the Care Giving Programme at Mapiya Sewana Elders Home, Ja-ela, marking their last days as trainees before their first flying roster.
Medical camp with the members of College of Military Medicine in Mundalma, Puttalam
SriLankan Cares partnered with the College of Military Medicine in Mundalama to host a health camp that engaged doctors, nurses, and support personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Various specialized clinics, including outpatient treatment, general care, paediatrics, eye care, and dental services, were established to cater to the community's needs. SriLankan Cares and the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine (SLCOMM) received a donation of used spectacles from a generous donor at Grace Baptist Church in London. These spectacles were distributed to residents of Mundalama Village following comprehensive eye examinations, offering essential vision support to those in need.

Ebert Silva Holidays offered them a festive double-decker bus ride to Galle Face Hotel, setting the stage for a joyous occasion. SriLankan Cares, spreading the Christmas spirit and joys of the season, donated 450 packs of essential items among the occupants of CCC Home, Maharagama. CCC Home is a transit residence for cancer outpatients and their caregivers who cannot afford to live in outside accommodation or travel long distance to and from their rural homes for treatment. It is situated inside the premises of the Cancer institute, Maharagama and allows patients easy access to their treatment.
This is the fourth time that SriLankan Cares extended its helping hand to CCC Home. The donations, which were contributions from the SriLankan Airlines’ staff, consisted essential items such as milk powder, tea leaves, biscuits, baby cream, baby soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste etc.

Cabin Crew Batch A5 participated a meaningful visit to the Vincent De Paul Elders Home in Wattala. During the morning hours, the 18 crew members spent quality time with the elderly residents. They began the day by offering a warm breakfast, creating a cheerful atmosphere.

SriLankan Cares Facilitated a donation to Lady Ridgeway Hospital
Human Heart Valve and Tissue Bank at Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children, established in 2019, received, a donation of essential chemicals from a group of donors from United Kingdom which is crucial for processing heart valves obtained from the deceased.
The seamless execution of this act of generosity was made possible by SriLankan Cares, the CSR arm of the airline by facilitating the swift transportation of the much-needed chemical shipment from Oxford University Hospital Foundation in the United Kingdom to Lady Ridgeway Hospital.

Familiarization Tour for the Students of Ananda College
Sri Lankan Cares organized a familiarization tour for the students of Ananda College Colombo, during which thirty-five members of the school's aeronautical academy had the opportunity to visit the 747 hangar. This unique experience allowed the students to gain valuable insights into the aviation industry, broadening their knowledge and fostering a deeper appreciation for the world of flight.
Medical camp with the members of College of Military Medicine
SriLankan Cares partnered with Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine to conduct a medical camp in Trincomalee at the Mangala Raja Maha Vihara, Seruwila. This Health camp included specialized clinics in outpatient treatment, paediatrics, eye, orthopaedic, general surgery, general medicine, dental surgery, ENT, dermatology, and psychology.
World Children's Day 2023
SriLankan Cares teamed with the Galle Face Hotel and Ebert Silva Holidays to organize a special programme for the children of a Child Development Centre for World Children's Day 2023. Fifty children from Vincent Home, Rathnapura along with the children experienced a day of fun and learning designed to educate them on the travel and tourism industry of Sri Lanka with a tour of the Colombo city, airport and inside an aircraft.
The children first toured the city of Colombo in a double-decker bus organized by Ebert Silva Holidays and were next taken to the Bandaranaike International Airport. At the airport, the children were shown the various ground handling activities and given an opportunity to board an Airbus A330 aircraft at the Engineering Hangar. The group was treated to SriLankan Airlines’ world-renowned hospitality and a scrumptious lunch in Palm Strip Restaurant. The day’s programme wrapped up with the group being hosted for a tea party by the Galle Face Hotel with music and dancing.
The Street Child Cricket World Cup 2023
SriLankan Cares sponsored the air tickets which made it possible for the Cricket Team of Child Action Lanka to travel to India for the tournament.

Memory Walk to Raise Awareness on Dementia
SriLankan Cares was part of ‘Memory Walk’ organized by The Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation (LAF) to create awareness on dementia. It is the first non-statutory organization dedicated to advocating and addressing the needs of those diagnosed with cognitive impairment and dementia. Many SriLankan Airlines staff members took part in the memory walk.

Collaboration with Suwaseriya Foundation
The 1990 Suwa Seriya Foundation provides island-wide, free pre-hospital emergency care to all Sri Lankans. A key focus of their efforts lies in maintaining the highest standards of care through continuous education and refresher training for their Emergency Medical Technicians. In pursuit of this goal, the Suwa Seriya Foundation extended an invitation to a team of six Paramedic experts hailing from Buckinghamshire New University in the UK, under the guidance of Paramedicine Professor Will Broughton, to provide specialized training to their personnel. This collaborative effort was made possible through the generous sponsorship of their travel expenses by SriLankan Cares, who further solidified their commitment by establishing a mutually beneficial agreement with the Suwa Seriya Foundation to leverage their expertise in support of community projects undertaken by SriLankan Cares.

SriLankan Airlines and Shangri-La Hambantota extend their generous arms to celebrate Global Wellness Day 2023
SriLankan Cares partnered with Shangri-La Hambantota to conduct a medical camp for the needy communities in the Hambantota area. The medical camp which was held for the fifth consecutive year, was organized to coincide with the Global Wellness Day 2023, with 700 individuals receiving medical consultation. The medical screening which was held at Dehigahalanda Maha Vidyalaya, Ambalanthota drew a significant turnout from the community, eager to take advantage of the range of services offered. The event showcased the commitment of both organizations towards the well-being of the community.
A team of skilled medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, and an optometric, provided a wide array of medical check-ups, consultations, and screenings.
SriLankan Airlines and Shangri-La network seek to conduct the event annually and continue with their endeavours to empower communities through joint charity initiatives of this scale.
Leadership Development programme for the Junior Prefects of Visakha Vidyalaya
SriLankan Cares continuously engages in programmes to provide students with valuable skills and knowledge to become effective leaders in the future. SriLankan Cares conducted a leadership programme and a familiarization tour at the flight hangar recently for the Junior Prefects of Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo. The leadership programme included sessions on leadership development, emotional development and familiarization tour at the 747 hangar.
The objective of the programme is to create a lasting impact on the participants, enabling them to take on leadership roles with confidence and positively influence those around them. The prefects who participated in this programme will benefit from the knowledge and skills they acquire, helping them excel not only during their school years but also in their future endeavours.

SriLankan Cares, organized a leadership development program for the prefects of Grade 10 to 12 of Ananda Balika National School, Polonnaruwa. Leadership development programme focused on various aspects of leadership including leadership development, teamwork, emotional intelligence, mental wellbeing and self-confidence. By organizing these leadership development programmes, SriLankan Cares aims to empower the future leaders of the country and equip them with the necessary skills and qualities.
Medical Camp in Hathamuna Primary School, Hingurakgoda
SriLankan Cares partnered with Liquid Island (Pvt) Limited to organize a medical camp at Hathamuna Primary School, Hingurakgoda to provide complimentary medical care for disadvantaged students and local communities. The Corporate Social Responsibility arm of SriLankan Airlines regularly works to improve the wellbeing of rural children and communities with the generous donations of staff members and partner organizations.
Medical camp offered doctor consultations and medicine to over 250 students and teachers free of charge with the help of a team of three physicians and two registered nurses which included general check-ups, vision screening and free medicine for all the students and teachers of Hathamuna Primary School.
Leadership Programme at St. Peters College, Colombo
In an endeavor to empower future leaders, SriLankan Cares conducted a leadership workshop targeting the first fifteen ruggerites of St. Peters College, Colombo 4. The ruggerites playing under the other age categories were also part of the programme. It was conducted by Captain Hemantha Siriratne, Mr Shaan Ratnaweera and Mr. Susil Premarathne . The programme covered areas such as psychology, leadership and emotional intelligence.

SriLankan Cares organized a familiarization tour for the students of Dharmapala Primary School, Depanama which was indeed a unique and memorable day outing, where they inspected an aircraft. The school is situated in Colombo district, Maharagama Division in Western province. Dharmapala Primary School, Depanama has a 75 students and 6 teachers. The rate of the performance of Grade 5 scholarship examination has increased from remarkably during last few years.
Medical Camp in Kottapitiya
SriLankan Cares organized a Medical Camp together with The Youth wing of Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) at Gangeyaya Primary School, Kottapitiya. Gageyaya Primary School has been identified as a rural school with minimum facilities in North Western Province. The school currently offers education to 110 students from Grade 1 to Grade 5 and employs 6 teachers. All students at the school are from local families including in the farming community and are greatly underprivileged in every aspect.

The Youth wing of Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) partnered with Sri Lankan Airlines CSR arm to conduct a series of Medical camps around the country. Also Thema Resorts hosted the medical team at their flagship property, Aliya Resort and SPA in Sigiriya.
SriLankan Cares medical camp offered doctor consultations and medicine to over 150 patients free of charge with the help of a team of three physicians and two registered nurses. Donation of Baby Strollers to Isuru Sewana Children’s Home
SriLankan Cares donated ten baby strollers to Isuru Sewana Children’s Home in Kuruwita with the consent of Department of Probation, Child Care and Social Services which is under The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council. Situated in Kuruwita, Isuru Sewana Children’s Home has 34 children who are under five years of age. There had been baby strollers were discarded at Airport Services which were no longer in use. SriLankan Cares took an initiative to hand them over to this Children’s Home where the baby strollers could be utilized for the need of these children.
'Day with a Plane' – Leadership Programme and Familiarization Tour for the Students of Negombo South International School Network - Negombo Branch
Negombo South International School is one of the leading International Schools in Sri Lanka and it provides the Sri Lankan curriculum- based education which includes the G.C.E Ordinary Level and G.C.E Advanced Level. A leadership programme was conducted at the School premises and 120 students including the prefects, stewards, traffic wardens and class monitors participated in it. Thereafter 34 prefects were brought to the SriLankan Airlines premises for the familiarization tour.
The objective of this programme was to provide the participant students with apt knowledge enhancement on Airline industry, key attributes of authentic leadership, qualities of leadership, self-representation through values and virtues in family and society.
'Day with a Plane' - Familiarization Tour for the Students of Andiambalama Maha Vidyalaya
SriLankan Cares organized a familiarization tour for the Advanced Level students of Andiambalama Maha Vidyalaya, which was indeed a unique and memorable day outing, where they inspected an aircraft and the Flight Simulator. Before their visit to the Airline premises they were given a classroom briefing at school on the basic airline operations.
The students were given a familiarization tour to SriLankan Engineering hanger where they were educated on the operational aspect of SriLankan Engineering and there after they were escorted to the Flight Simulator and educated about the functions. The tour had aspirational value for the children, for them to have a career aspiration after completing school education.
Medical Camp in Mahaberiyatenna, Digana
SriLankan Cares partnered with Liquid Island and the National Livestock Development Board to offer a healing hand to the children at Mahaberiyatenna Tamil School in Digana with a medical and vision care camp. With the help of a team of skilled medical practitioners and nurses, SriLankan Cares provided free health checks, vision tests, treatments and medication to the students as well as their teachers. In the course of its ongoing work to nurture the wellbeing of today’s children and create a better tomorrow, SriLankan Cares organizes comprehensive health camps around the island.
Christmas Programme for the students of The Ceylon School for the Deaf and Blind, Rathmalana
With Christmas just around the corner, SriLankan Cares, teamed with the Sri Lanka Navy and Ebert Silva Holidays to organize a special programme for the students of The Ceylon School for the Deaf and Blind, Rathmalana. The school has about 235 students, where they are provided education, vocational training, food and lodging, health care and recreational facilities.
Forty four differently-abled students enjoyed a day of fun and festivities in the Colombo city and seaport. The students first toured in the city of Colombo in a double-decker bus organized by Ebert Silva Holidays and were next taken to the Colombo Port where they had a special Christmas party onboard a ship which belongs to the Sri Lankan Naval fleet. The students met Santa Claus and received special gifts from him and had a wonderful evening with a tea party, games and fun.

Thereafter, the group of students were escorted to Bandaranaike International Airport and they were educated on the various operational activities at the airport. The group was treated to SriLankan Airlines’ world-renowned hospitality and a scrumptious lunch at the Palm Strip restaurant in the transit area. Situated in Polonnaruwa district, in North Central Province, Ananda Balika National School has 1600 students and it is the only girls’ school in the Polonnaruwa district.

SriLankan Cares in association with the Forest Department of Sri Lanka organized a workshop for the students of Andiambalama Maha Vidyalaya, Katunayake to raise awareness on the importance protecting nature. This was followed by an art, poetry and essay competition and an exhibition. The winning students of each category received certificates from SriLankan Cares and the Forest Department of Sri Lanka.
SriLankan Cares' initiative for 43rd Anniversary of SriLankan Airlines
Continuing the celebrations of 43 years of flying, SriLankan Cares, visited the Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital, Colombo to share a moment of smiles with children undergoing treatment. SriLankan family members came together to brighten up their day thereby making the anniversary celebrations more meaningful. With their support, over 100 gift packs were distributed among children. Dr. Duminda Samarasinghe Paediatric Cardiologist of Lady Ridgeway Hospital was present on the occasion with the members of SriLankan Airlines’ Senior Management Team and staff.
SriLankan Cares awareness campaign on medical tickets
SriLankan Cares launched a poster campaign recently across the main hospitals island wide to create awareness on SriLankan Airlines facilitating air tickets for children in need of medical care overseas. Each selected patient will receive assistance from the SriLankan Cares Medical Tickets Scheme to travel with parents to receive the necessary treatment.
FlySmiLes Launches Miles Donation Programme with SriLankan Cares
Members of SriLankan Airlines’ frequent flyer programme, FlySmiLes, can now donate their Miles to worthy causes fronted by SriLankan Cares, the airline’s corporate social responsibility arm. Donated miles will enable patients, especially children from disadvantaged backgrounds, to travel overseas for life-saving medical treatment that would otherwise be unattainable to them.
FlySmiLes members can donate 1,000 miles or more to the SriLankan Cares Medical Tickets scheme as often as they please. Subsequently, FlySmiLes will contribute to each donation, an additional 25 per cent of the number of miles donated by the member. SriLankan Cares will use donated miles to issue redemption air tickets for patients hailing from low-income backgrounds, and suffering from life-threatening conditions, to travel abroad for medical procedures that are unavailable in Sri Lanka.
Each patient selected to receive assistance from the SriLankan Cares Medical Tickets scheme is entitled to two complimentary redemption air tickets to a chosen destination for healthcare along with one companion, such as a family member or medical professional. SriLankan Cares aims to provide pairs of redemption tickets for up to twenty patients every year.
SriLankan Cares facilitates a donation to Raddoluwa Sri Pangnananda National School
In order to facilitate a better education and a learning experience, SriLankan Cares facilitated a donation of essential items to Raddoluwa Sri Pangnananda National School, sponsored by Gymnasium Isernhagen, Hannover - Germany. These items consisted a multimedia projector, a projector screen and a printer.
Situated in Gampaha district, Western province, Raddoluwa Sri Pangnananda National School, has a student population of 1200 comprising 530 girls and 670 boys. This is the only National School in Katana Local Government area which conducts classes from grade 6 to 13 including Mathematics, Science, Commerce and Arts streams in Advanced Level. The School has impressive academic results and the children have displayed remarkable talent in a variety of sports and extra-curricular activities.

SriLankan Airlines’ Cares Airlifts Critical Medicine to Sri Lanka
Sri Lankan Cares takes on the cause of airlifting internationally donated essential medicines and medical equipment to hospitals in Sri Lanka, free of freight charges. The corporate social responsibility arm of Sri Lankan Airlines aims to provide timely relief to hospitals that are struggling to cope with the ongoing drug shortage and patients who depend on life-saving medicines in the country through the initiative.
Consequently, SriLankan Cares will continue to airlift emergency medical supplies that have been generously donated by well-wishers from all corners of the world including France; Indonesia; the United Kingdom; Malaysia; Kuwait; and Nepal. The medical supplies would be flown free of freight charges courtesy of SriLankan Airlines and distributed to medical establishments such as the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children on an ongoing basis. SriLankan Cares facilitates the project by organizing the logistics of the consignments from various points of origin by obtaining necessary documents and approvals that help fast-track the process.
Medical camp with the members of College of Military Medicine
SriLankan Cares, partnered with the members of Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine to conduct a Medical camp to a group of students with special needs undergoing training at the Seeduwa Vocational Training Institute and also this service was extended to hundred families of visually impaired community.
The medical screening was held at Seeduwa Vocational Training Institute and approximately 300 individuals received medical consultation. The medical camp consisted of an Eye Clinic, Dental Clinic, Psychological and Nutritional clinics.
SriLankan Airlines and Shangri-La Hambantota extend their generous arms to celebrate Global Wellness Day 2022
SriLankan Cares, the CSR arm of SriLankan Airlines, partnered with Shangri-La Hambantota to conduct a medical camp recently for the needy communities in the Hambantota area. The medical camp which was held for the fourth consecutive year, was organized to coincide with the Global Wellness Day, with 220 individuals receiving medical consultation.
The medical screening which was held at Dehigahalanda Maha Vidyalaya, Ambalantota was received with positive comments by the local community and those who came in numbers to contribute and be a part of the project.
SriLankan Airlines and Shangri-La network seek to conduct the event annually and continue with their endeavors to empower communities through joint charity initiatives of this scale.
Celebrating the World Environment Day
SriLankan Cares the corporate social responsibility arm of SriLankan Airlines together with the Forest Department of Sri Lanka, and the students of the Nature Club of the Andiambala Maha Vidyalaya – Katunayake conducted a workshop to help school children understand how to inculcate being aware of their carbon footprint through the personal choices they would make in everyday living to ensure a greener future through learned behavior.
As a first step to this paradigm shift, school children took part in a guided tree planting programme in with a selection of trees donated by the students and the Forest Department of Sri Lanka in the school premises, which also helps to sequester carbon emissions often attributed to the airline industry.
The Students also received valuable certificates of participation from SriLankan Cares and the Forest Department of Sri Lanka.
SriLankan Cares conducts a medical camp in Bopaththalawa
Cares partnered with Liquid Island (Pvt.) Limited recently and organized a medical camp at the Bopaththalawa Sinhala Vidyalaya in Nuwara Eliya to provide complimentary medical care for disadvantaged students and local communities. The Corporate Social Responsibility arm of SriLankan Airlines regularly works to improve the wellbeing of impoverished children and communities with the generous donations of staff members and partner organizations.
Bopaththalawa Sinhala Vidyalaya has been identified as a rural school with minimum facilities in the Central Province. The school currently offers education to 80 students from Grades 1 to 11 or G.C.E. Ordinary Level and employs 10 teachers. All students at the school are from local families including in the farming community and are greatly underprivileged in every aspect. The students and their families have limited access to healthcare facilities, with the nearest hospital located roughly 20 kilometers from their residential area.
The SriLankan Cares’ medical camp offered doctor consultations and medicine to over 121 patients free of charge with the help of a team of three physicians and two registered nurses. The successful completion of the camp is a demonstration of SriLankan Cares’ continued commitment to lend a hand to those who need it the most.
SriLankan Cares donates a Multi Media Projector to Andiambalama Maha Vidyalaya
SriLankan Cares, the CSR Arm of SriLankan Airlines, in its continuous endeavor to enhance the access to educational facilities among the country’s children, donated a Multi Media Projector to Andiambalama Maha Vidyalaya. Situated in Gampaha district, Western province, Andiambalama Maha Vidyalaya, has a student population of 954 comprising 486 girls and 468 boys. The school conducts classes from grade 6 to 13 including Maths, Commerce and Arts subjects in Advanced Level. The School has impressive academic results and the children have displayed remarkable talent in a variety of sports and extra-curricular activities.
The donation was made on the school’s annual avurudu festival and the joy of having a long-felt need fulfilled was reflected on the faces of students and teachers.

SriLankan Cares celebrates International Women’s Day
Marking the International Women’s Day in a meaningful way, SriLankan Cares, the CSR arm of the Airline donated shoe vouchers among a group of students, who are children of the beneficiaries of ‘Sri Lanka Welfare Society of the Blind Women. Supporting the livelihoods of visually impaired women, the donation was made through the contribution of staff members of SriLankan Airlines, who continue to support the community welfare initiatives undertaken by the Airline to uplift lives of children and youth of the country. Sri Lanka Welfare Society of the Blind - Seeduwa is a Social services organization located in Ja-Ela and its objective is to support their members to full fill their basic needs to uplift their lives. Since its inception, SriLankan Cares has been bringing together the national carrier's many programmes that have each been independently working towards the company's goal of supporting the needy children throughout Sri Lanka.

SriLankan Cares, the CSR arm of SriLankan Airlines, spreading the Christmas spirit and joys of the season, donated packs of essential items among the occupants of CCC Home, Maharagama. CCC Home is a transit residence for cancer outpatients and their caregivers who cannot afford to live in outside accommodation or travel long distance to and from their rural homes for treatment. It is situated inside the premises of the Cancer institute Maharagama and allows patients easy access to their treatment. The donations, which were contributions from the SriLankan Airlines’ staff, consisted essential items such as milk powder, samaposha, biscuits, baby cream, baby soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste etc., SriLankan Cares donated a total of 540 packs containing these items.

As the world celebrates the spirit and innocence of rightful owners of tomorrow this Children’s day under the global theme, ‘Reimagine a better future for every child’, SriLankan Cares, under the umbrella of the National Carrier, SriLankan Airlines marked the occasion with a donation of medical equipment to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital, Colombo. The Airline understands and fully endorses the importance of nurturing a future generation of healthy citizens and undertakes various initiatives to support child healthcare and wellbeing. Accordingly, SriLankan Cares made a donation of infusions pumps to the Pediatric Cardiology Unit of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital which is the only tertiary care referral centre in the country for children with heart diseases. The Hospital currently houses children from all districts of Sri Lanka.
Donation of two more units of RESMED CPAP / BI-LEVEL Ventilators to The National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL)
SriLankan Cares with the support of Amelie and Daniel Linsey Foundation-UK, organized a another donation of Non-Invasive Ventilators (BIPAP/CPAP) to The National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL)with the intention of supporting the healthcare needs faced by the country due to the pandemic. This is the second such donation made to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, with the first batch of ventilators donated earlier last month ( May). The Amelie and Daniel Linsey Foundation was established in memory of siblings Amelie, 15, and Daniel, 19, who lost their lives in the Easter Sunday attacks, the sister and brother of its Director David Linsey. The Foundation aims to improve local medical facilities in Sri Lanka and this donation comes as a part of this noble intention. As its first project in Sri Lanka the foundation donated 50 patient transfer trolley beds to a few identified hospitals in Sri Lanka.
Donation of a High Flow Oxygen Machine to the Colombo East National Hospital
Continuing SriLankan Cares' endeavor to support acute healthcare needs currently faced by the country, SriLankan Cares were able to make another donation of a High Flow Oxygen machine to the Colombo East National Hospital, which treats only COVID- 19 patients and is a final referral point for serious patients. This is the third such donation made through SriLankan Cares, with the first two donations being two units of RESMED CPAP / BI-LEVEL Ventilators donated to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.

SriLankan Cares, fulfilling an acute need of the hour due to the prevailing pandemic, donated the first batch of ventilators to the National Hospital, Colombo. When the country witnesses a surge in the numbers of COVID-19 patients, as the main and final referral center of the island, National Hospital is faced with the challenge of having sufficient resources in place to provide medical care for the incoming patients. SriLankan Cares, as a tribute to the yeomen service rendered by the country’s health sector in combating the current pandemic, extended its support in this manner. The donation was funded purely through the contribution of SriLankan Airlines’ staff members, who joined hands to help fulfil a national endeavor despite the turbulent times faced by the Airline and challenges and hardships stemming from the compulsory salary reductions owing to the current circumstances.
Little Hearts Project
SriLankan Cares steered a fundraising collaboration with the Little Hearts project, in aid of the national endeavour to build a Cardiac and Critical Care Complex at Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, Colombo. During the four-day fundraiser, SriLankan staff members brought in their tills, donated money received as birthday/anniversary gifts and purchased Little Hearts merchandise. SriLankan Cares fundraising collaboration for the Little Hearts project received donations amounting to LKR 1,275,770/- which translates to saving hundred and twenty seven lives. Director, Little Hearts Project, Dr. Duminda Samarasinghe, thanking the generous contributions of the SriLankan staff members said, “We are immensely grateful to the SriLankan family for supporting us, specially at a time that everyone is facing numerous hardships and difficulties. This is the second time that we collaborated with SriLankan Cares and we are overwhelmed by the response that we received from the National Carrier.

World Children’s Day
Commemorating World Children’s Day, with the collective effort of the SriLankan family, SriLankan Cares donated a braille writer to a visually impaired child. A team representing SriLankan Cares visited Andiambalama Maha Vidyalaya and donated the much-needed braille writer, along with gift vouchers for needy children of the school. The braille writer was handed over by Khalid Oshman, a visually impaired SriLankan Airlines employee, who is actively engaged in working as a Customer Service Officer.

Celebrating World Children’s Day
SriLankan Cares, collaborated with Galle Face Hotel and Ebert Silva Holidays to celebrate World Children’s Day on 1st October with more than a hundred children of Katuwapitiya in Negombo who were directly affected by the devastating Easter Sunday bombings. The three leading corporate organisations, which often work in partnership for the benefit of society, provided 115 children with a full day of educational entertainment and awareness of the hospitality industry. The objective of the day out was to inspire the young ones with new knowledge on the tourism and hospitality industry, providing them with a holistic educational experience combined with an element of fun.
‘දිවි ජය මග’ Special Educational Programme
An Educational Camp for the children of Dimbulagala Aralaganwila Maha Vidyalaya was conducted by SriLankan Cares on the 13th to 15th September 2019 at the School Premises. The objective of this program was to provide the students with knowledge enhancement and morale boosting. Over a hundred students from grades 8, 9 and 10 took part in the program. Day one saw lively team building activities facilitated by the staff of SriLankan Airlines. Students enjoyed the physical and social building aspects brought forth through the activity. On the 2nd day, several class room sessions were held in the subjects of personality and leadership development, Handcraft, essential communication, environment best practices and first aid which the participants found enriching, and beneficial, both academically and communally. After the sessions, the students showcased their talents around a campfire.
Medical Camp at Hambanthota
SriLankan Cares the CSR arm of SriLankan Airlines, partnered with Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort and Spa to conduct a medical camp for the needy communities in Dehigahalanda in Hambantota and the medical camp was conducted for the third consecutive year. The medical screening which was held at Dehigahalanda Maha Vidyalaya was a tremendous success and received with positive comments by the local community.
Fam Tour Blue Rose
SriLankan Cares in collaboration with the Media Unit of AASL implemented a Familiarization Program at the Bandaranaike International Airport, for Blue Rose Special School Kandy- School of children with special needs-on the 27th of March 2019. 38 students of the school, along with teachers and parents participated in the tour. The children were delighted to tour in and around the airport, guided by SriLankan personnel. They were given a close view of the functions in the airport, and were also taken aboard an aircraft. They were also served a meal onboard. The children enjoyed the program immensely.
‘From School to the World’ -Aviation Awareness Programme
Driven by the vision of nurturing the next generation of aviation professionals, SriLankan Airlines launched “From School to the World”, a special Awareness Programme on Aviation Careers for the aspirant youth who seek to pursue a career in the aviation industry. The project which is spearheaded by SriLankan Human Resources in collaboration with SriLankan Aviation College and SriLankan Cares seek to empower the Nation’s youth and grant them the foresight which they require to sharpen their skills which they need to make their mark in their desired field. “From School to the World” was launched with a vision to create a future-ready next generation who has the mettle to take on the nation’s future. The programme will educate, attract and build a dependable entry-level talent pipeline for the airline industry, targeting the early youth giving them a flavor of the industry and potential careers which they could explore, before they pursue their higher education.
Sanitary facility and drinking water facility to Prasanna Kumara and Family
The members of SriLankan family awakened their sensitive hearts, as they held hands together with SriLankan Cares to provide sanitary and drinking water facilities to a family inneed in Pubbogama, Anuradhapura. Prasanna Kumara and family, were in desperate need of help, as they lacked sanitary and drinking water facilities, which they needed to get through the day. In addition to the lack of basic necessities, the family was hampered further by the degenerating medical condition of Prasanna’s three little girls. Imasha, Prasanna’s eldest daughter who is fourteen was treated for cancer and suffers from continuous fever which has weakened her immune system. Ishara who is eight has an eyesight problem which cannot be corrected whilst the youngest daughter Isurika who is five years old, also has a weak immune system and suffers from high fever during nights. Strengthening the efforts taken by SriLankan Cares to help Prasanna and family, the members of SriLankan raised a sum of LKR 472,850.00, which was need to build a tube well and sanitary facility, which were essential for their wellbeing.
Cherishing the Joy of Christmas with Blossoming Hearts
SriLankan Cares partnered with Galle Face Hotel and Ebert Silva Holidays to offer a truly memorable experience to the children from CCC Home, which is the transit home for patients at Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama. Eyes of little ones were sparkling with joy as they were treated to a Christmas experience which would linger in their hearts forever. The programme which was organized for the fourth consecutive year was held on the 17th of December 2018. It was a day filled with laughter and joy as little ones were taken on an exhilarating city ride on a double-decker bus. The festive vibes were awakened by the calypso music which was on-board. However it was the presence of Santa Claus which made their day truly special. Upon their arrival at Galle Face Hotel, they were welcomed to a special lunch at the exclusive ‘Long Room. The gifts were sponsored by the generous contributions of SriLankan Staff and ‘Spread a Little Love’ Foundation. SriLankan employees enthusiastically became a part of ‘Buy a Postcard, Help a Child Project.’

The medical campaign was a tremendous success, as a total of approximately 300 individuals came to receive medical consultation. The medical screening which was held at Seetharama Temple, Hambantota was received with positive comments by the local community and those who came in numbers to contribute and be a part of the project.
Till collection for the Little Hearts Project
SriLankan Cares, together with the generous staff of the Airline, ventured on a fund raising project during the Valentine’s Season. “Give your love to a heart that truly deserves your love,” was the message that was conveyed as SriLankan Cares invited the entire SriLankan workforce to be a part of this project. Embracing the true meaning of love, the funds were raised to fuel the ‘Little Hearts’ Project which is an initiative that seeks to collect funds to expedite the construction of Lady Ridgeway Hospital’s Cardiac and Critical Care Complex. The fund raising commenced on February 14th and went on for a week with representatives from SriLankan Cares reaching out to staff in all sections and conveying the importance of contributing to the project. A total of Rs 374,583.00 was collected through the initiative
Christmas in the City –Project with cancer hospital
Lifting the jovial spirits of young children during the Christmas season, SriLankan Cares joined hands with Galle Face Hotel and Ebert Silva Holidays to give a memorable experience to 30 kids and their parents from CCC Home which is the transit home for patients at National Cancer Hospital, Maharagama. Hearts leaping in joy and faces brimming with happiness, the kids experienced a day that they would remember with fondness. The day was set in motion as the kids got on board the double-decker and were taken on a special city ride with calypso music. The kids were surprised to find the presence of Santa Clause on board, as they enjoyed the bus ride in sheer happiness. Upon arrival at the Galle Face Hotel, they were warmly welcomed to a special Christmas dinner buffer at the exclusive ‘Long Room’. They were amazed and fascinated as they were thereafter treated to a spellbinding magic show. It almost became a fairy tale experience for little ones as Santa gave them the personalized gifts which they asked for Christmas.
World Children’s Day
SriLankan Cares, in collaboration with Galle Face Hotel and Ebert Silva Holidays celebrated World Children’s Day 2017 on the first of October by hosting a special programme for children from three development homes, namely Kirillawela Senehasa Deri Sevana Children’s Development Centre, Senarath Gunawardena Children’s Development Centre and Gangodawila Children’s Development Centre. On this day, 62 very excited little guests were escorted from their homes to Galle Face Hotel, where they were treated to a delicious breakfast. The highlight of their outing was none other than the chance to experience on board hospitality on an A330 aircraft. After lunch, the children were escorted back to Galle Face where the organizers had also arranged a surprise magic show, which enthralled them. Before departing, each child was presented with a gift bag.
Village Heart Beat Centre Opening in Oddusuddan
The eighth Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre was opened in Oddusuddan in the Mullaitivu District, which is a joint project of SriLankan Airlines and Foundation of Goodness. SriLankan Cares collaborated with the Foundation of Goodness to construct the full-fledged Training facility with the aim of improving the lives of underprivileged communities in the Northern Province of the country as well as to focus on child and youth empowerment. SriLankan Cares raised funding for the construction, equipping and maintenance of the Centre whilst Foundation of Goodness Provided Land in Oddusuddan.
